August

Our group was slightly depleted in numbers this month, for various reasons, but six of us met up for lunch before we played two games of darts together.

Our first game started well and by the second round Jean had scored a 72 and then Joyce a 75 which proved unbeatable and was the highest score in that game.  After eight rounds both teams were struggling to get the final double to win the game, so we resorted to our fallback - nearest the bull!  We all threw one dart and the winning dart was thrown by Sarah, for the Green team.  Joyce's high score was also for the Green team, so they took the honours for the first game.

The second game started slowly with average scores until Peter scored 84 in the fourth round which proved to be the highest score in that game, but for the Red team this time.  After five rounds both teams needed a double to finish and win, but by the eighth round it was decided that we would throw for 'nearest the bull' again.  This time it was Joyce's dart that won making it another win for the Green team.

With so few players we were all quite tired by the end of the second game so it was decided to finish the session there.  Our September meeting will be on Friday 25th September at midday, but Jean will be running the session, as Sarah is away.  

July

After having no meeting in June, eight of us went to the London Inn last Friday, seven of us had lunch and then played darts.  Joyce joined us a little later for the second game.  We only had time for two games, due to other commitments.

The first game started slowly at first, with the first high scorer being Jennie,  who scored 76 in the second round, followed by Marilyn who got a 71 in the third round, and then Sarah got a 79, which turned out to be the highest score in that game, for the Green team.

By the time we had reached the fourth round, both teams needed a double to finish.  Doubles proved hard to find and by round 9 we opted for the 'nearest the bull' option!   We all threw one dart and Sarah's dart was closest, scoring a second success for the Green team.

In the second game, Marilyn started off with a 50, then Sarah got a 60, but for the rest of the game the scores were our usual average.  By round 5 we all needed a double to win the game, and in round 6 Peter got the single 4 followed by a double 4, to win the game for the Red team.   So honours were even with one game apiece.  We will do it all again in August and hopefully manage to get even higher scores then.

May

Only seven group members were in attendance this month, but we all enjoyed our lunch before playing Darts for two games.

With an odd number of members,  we enlisted  our old friend, A.N. Other playing for the Green team and he did surprisingly well!   

In the first game, the Red team needed a double to finish by the fourth round, but doubles were very elusive and the game continued to the seventh round, when Peter,  playing as A.N.Other for the Green team, scored the double 3 to take the victory.    However the highest score with three darts was Sarah for the Red team with 69.  This was not, however, the highest score overall, as in the second game, Jill for the Red team, scored a magnificent 73.  As in the first game, we needed doubles by the fourth round but by the tenth round we decided to try 'nearest the bull' to decide who won.  Celia's dart was even closed to the bull than Peter's, but both were on the Green team, so they won both games this time.

There is no meeting in June due to various holidays, and the next meeting will be on 17th July (3rd Friday of the month) when we will do it all over again.

April

Ten of the eleven group members met up at the London Inn on Friday 17th April, to enjoy various items from the lunchtime menu, followed by a couple of games of darts.

With five of us on each team, the scores quickly reached the point of needing a double to win the game - which is always where we struggle!   By the time we were at the fourth round one team needed to get a double to win, but by the seventh round it was decided that we would have to go to 'nearest the bull' yet again!  Marilyn's dart was very close and held its place until Sarah's dart landed right beside it - luckily they were both on the Green team, so no tie break was required.  Despite the Green team win, it was Pauline who scored the highest with her three darts - 85, for the Red team.

The second game started with lowish scores but Jill scored a 67 to give the Greens a good start. By the fifth round the Greens needed their double but couldn't succeed until Peter stepped up and got the single one, closely followed by the double one to clinch a second win for his team.  As Jill had scored a magnificent 86 in the third round, it was a clean sweep for the Greens.  

We will be doing it all again on Friday, May 15th, the third Friday of the month.

NIne members of the group enjoyed lunch together at the London Inn, and then eight of us carried on with our darts session.

With an equal number of players on each of the two teams, we quickly reached the point of needing a double to end the game.  Unfortunately, the doubles proved elusive and after another three rounds both teams agreed on the 'nearest the bull' option.  Joyce, for the Red team, got very close to the bull and that dart proved unbeatable.  However, the highest score with three darts came from Sarah with a 78 for the Greens in the very first round and despite Peter scoring a couple of 70's, the first 78 was also unbeatable.  The Red team won the first game, thanks to Joyce.

The second game also started with high scores.  Jean scored an amazing 112 in the very first round - again this was impossible to better by the other players.  Both teams needed a double by round 4, but after three more rounds we again opted for nearest the bull, and it was Jean, again, who completed the double and won that game for the Green team.

In the third game, Joyce got a 77 in the first round for the Red team,  which nobody else could better and after a few more rounds where doubles seemed impossible to get, it was back to the single dart from each player to decide the game.  This time it was Jill who won the game for the Green team.

We had a couple of hours of fun, encouraging each other to do well which is the spirit in which we always play.
