Potential New Groups

This is a list of groups we would like to get started.

Some of the groups are existing ones which have become temporarily closed as they are in need of a group coordinator. Some of the groups would like a few more members before they can get going. Some of the groups listed are just ideas mentioned by members.

Group Leader.
Being a group leader sounds scary, but it's not really. It doesn't even need to be one person, some of our groups split the role between 2 or more members. There is a small amount of admin required (risk assessment etc.). Apart from that, you can make the role as simple or as detailed as you want. Existing group leaders will help with training and advice if required.

If you are interested in anything on this page, please contact the Groups Coordinator using the link on the Contact Us page.

Groups in need of a group leader.

Quiz Group.
Currently has 7 names on the list. The original group used to compete in pubs and clubs around Plymouth. That stopped with the arrival of covid. The group would like to start again with an enthusiastic leader.

Strollers Group.
Currently has 9 names on the list. This group is for those who prefer to stroll 1/2-2 miles. Difficult terrain is unlikely, but appropriate footwear and clothing is required. Members are responsible for their own health and fitness.

Groups in need of a few more members.

Music Group.
Currently has 1 name on the list. This is another group that closed due to covid. The original group used to visit venues around Plymouth listening to and enjoying a wide range of musical events.

Ideas for Groups.

Darts 2 Group.
The existing group is full. They meet in a local pub where they have lunch before playing a few games of darts. The pub is too small to allow the group to expand.

Fitness Group.
With a sufficient number of interested members it might be possible to hire a personal trainer for a 1 hour fitness class. There would need to be a minimum of 10 members to cover costs. The level of exercise involved would depend on the abilities of the members.

Nostalgia Group.
A suggestion from another, local u3a. Members meet to talk about recollections from the past with a specific topic at each meeting. For example, schools, work, transport or holidays.

Tai Chi Group.
Our current Tai Chi Group meets in the scout hall and cannot take new members due to the size of the room. The group use an outside Tutor, fully trained and insured, but he would require a minimum of 6 members before it becomes worth his while.

Ukulele 2 Group.
Our current ukulele group meet in one of the small rooms at the Woolwell Centre. There is no room to fit in more players, but the group leader is willing to start a new group if there are enough people.
